March 5-6 - Div. III District (Rossford H.S.) - Woodmore finished 27th of 50 teams with 19.5 points. Edison was the top team with 136 points. The top finisher for the Wildcats was senior Landon Emch wrestling at 144. He won his first two matches on day one to advance to the winner's bracket semifinals where he lost Hunter Vogus from Monroeville by pin in 52 seconds. That dropped him down to the consolation bracket where he lost to Jace Margraf from Mohawk, 6-3. That dropped Emch down to the fifth-place match where he lost an 11-7 decision to Xavier Escobedo from Eastwood. Emch won his day one matches over Hunter Grunden from Tinora (TF, 18-0) and Frank Blair from Elmwood (MD, 14-3). The top four in each weight class earn a ticket to the state meet next week, the fifth-place finisher is the alternate in the weight class. Senior Lukus Schaub at 120 advanced to the second day of the district meet. Schaub went 2-1 on the first day - he defeated Zach Ponx from Liberty Benton by pin, he lost to Drew Matthews from Liberty Center by decision (8-3), and he pinned Andrew Mitchell from Ashland Crestview. In his first match on day two, he lost by decision (8-0) to Matthew Parks from Seneca East. Sophomore Jack Caldwell (150) and junior Jacob Roginski (175) both won a match on day one, but suffered two losses to fall out of the district tournament. The other three district qualifiers - freshman Matt Caldwell (106), junior Brant Deal (157), and senior Drew St. John (285), lost their first two matches on day one to fall out of the tournament.
Feb. 26 - Div. III Sectional (Oak Harbor H.S.) - The Wildcats finished sixth in the 13-team Div. III sectional with 115 points. Lakota took the team title with 175 points. Woodmore had three wrestlers advance to the championship match. Sophomore Jack Caldwell, at 150 pounds, lost 8-3 to Hayden Buhro from Oak Harbor in the title bout. Caldwell was 2-1 in the sectional. Junior Jacob Roginski, at 175 pounds, lost to Dominick Whetsel from Gibsonburg, 6-0, in the championship bout. Roginski was 2-1 in the sectional. Senior Drew St. John, at 285 pounds, lost to Seth Stanley from Margaretta in the title match, 12-6. St. John was 2-1 in the sectional. All three earn a ticket to the Div. III district meet next week, March 5-6, hosted by Rossford High School. Four wrestlers earned a spot in the third-place match. Senior Lukus Schaub, at 120 pounds, won his third-place match over Simon Roth from Lakota, by injury default. Schaub was 3-1 in sectional. Senior Landon Emch, at 144 pounds, won his third-place match over Antonio Villareal from Gibsonburg, 3-2. Emch was 3-1 in the tournament. Freshman Matt Caldwell at 106 pounds, lost his third-place match by pin to Mason Snyder from Lake. He was 1-2 in the sectional. Junior Brant Deal, at 157 pounds, lost to Jack Zeitheim from Oak Harbor, 16-2, in the third-place match. Deal was 1-2 in the sectional. All four wrestlers, Matt Caldwell, Schaub, Emch, and Deal will join Jack Caldwell, Roginski, and St. John in the district meet next week. Freshman Jack Morris went 0-2 in the sectional at 113 pounds and sophomore Aden Carter, at 165 pounds, was 1-2 losing in the fifth-place match to be the alternate in the weight class for the district meet. The top four finishers in each weight class advance to the district meet.
Feb. 19 - NBC Championships (Elmwood H.S.) - The Wildcats finished fifth in the eight-team field with 93 points. Lake took the team title with 133 points. Sophomore Jack Caldwell won the league championship at 150 pounds by winning both his matches. Caldwell beat Wyatt Ziegler from Elmwood, 10-5, to advance to the championship match were he recorded a reversal with 20 seconds left in the match to earn a 2-1 win over Keagon Henry from Lake. Woodmore had three third-place finishers. Freshman Matt Caldwell beat Mason Snyder from Lake, 12-11, in his third-place match at 106 pounds. Senior Landon Emch, at 144 pounds, beat Frank Blair from Elmwood, 10-0, in the third-place match. And, senior Drew St. John pinned Colton Oberhouse from Eastwood to earn third place in the 285-pound weight class. Freshman Jack Morris (113), senior Lukus Schaub (126), and sophomore Brant Deal (157) all placed fourth in their weight class.
Feb. 12 - at Van Buren - Woodmore 46, Van Buren 21; Woodmore 43, Carey 27; Archbold 40, Woodmore 24; Woodmore 48, Cory-Rawson 24. Junior Eli Wolph was named the Wrestler of the Meet winning all four of his matches, two by pin and two by decision. Also winning four matchers for the Wildcats was: senior Lukus Schaub, senior Landon Emch, sophomore Brant Deal, and sophomore Jack Caldwell. Junior Jacob Roginski won three matches.
Jan. 29 - Thunderbird Invite (Lima CC) - The Wildcats finished eighth in the 43-team field with 108.5 points. Waynedale took the team title with 198.5 points. The top finisher for Woodmore was sophomore Jack Caldwell at 150 pounds where he advanced all the way to the championship match where he lost to Montana Pierce from McComb, 6-5. Caldwell was 4-1 in the tournament. Pierce was the #2 seed in the weight class and Caldwell was #8. Caldwell beat the top seed in the weight class, Trenton Gatchell from Allen East, 10-6, in the quarterfinal round. Woodmore had three wrestlers in the 3rd/4th place match. Senior Drew St. John won his match over Brock Bushong from Carey, 8-4, at 285 pounds. St. John compiled a 6-1 record in the tournament and came all the way back to place after losing his first match in the tournament. St. John was the #4 seed in the weight class and Bushong was #8. Seniors Lukus Schaub (120) and Landon Emch both lost their match for third place and had 5-2 records in the tournament. Schaub lost to Michael Hagan from Covington, 4-2. Hagan was the #2 seed and Schaub was not seeded. Emch lost to Ezekiel Burkholder from Lima Bath by pin in 2:09. Burkholder as the #5 seed and Emch was #8. Other wrestlers and their records for the tournament included: freshman Matt Caldwell at 106 pounds (1-2), freshman Jack Morris at 113 (0-2), sophomore Brant Deal at 157 (1-2), sophomore Aden Carter at 165 pounds (1-2), junior Jacob Roginski at 175 pounds (1-2), and junior Eli Wolph at 190 pounds (2-2).
Jan. 21/22 - Van Buren Invite - The Wildcats finished 10th in the 33-team field with 98 points. Galion was the team champion with 205 points. Woodmore had two wrestlers finish third. Senior Lukus Schaub was third at 120 pounds. He went 3-1 in the tournament and won by decision (9-2) over Zach Ponx from Liberty-Benton in the third-place match. Junior Eli Wolph also placed third beating Gavin Gillig from Liberty-Benton in the third-place match, 6-5. Wolph had a 4-1 record in the tournament. Sophomore Jack Caldwell placed fifth at 157 pounds. Caldwell had a 5-2 record in the tournament. Caldwell beat Alex Theis from Mohawk, 6-1, in the fifth-place match. Senior Landon Emch placed sixth at 144 pounds. He lost to Sam Wegesin from Galion, by decision (11-9) in the fifth-place match. Emch split his six matches in the tournament.
Jan. 19 - Tri-Meet at Elmwood - Columbus Grove 45, Woodmore 36; Elmwood 45, Woodmore 24. Winning two matches for the Wildcats was freshman Matt Caldwell, senior Lukus Schaub, senior Landon Emch, junior Jacob Roginski, and senior Drew St. John.
Jan. 12 - NBC Quad at Otsego - Fostoria 36, Woodmore 31; Woodmore 45, Otsego 30. Six Woodmore wrestlers won twice in the quad meet. Winning twice was freshman Matt Caldwell at 106 (forfeit, pin), senior Lukus Schaub at 120 (two pins), sophomore Jack Caldwell at 157 (major decision, forfeit), junior Garrett Geldine at 165 (pin, forfeit), junior Jacob Roginski at 175 (decision, forfeit), and junior Eli Wolph at 190 (pin, decision).
Jan. 7/8 - "A" Classic at Woodmore - The Wildcats captured the tournament, in which they host, with 346 team points. Ayersville was second with 329, and Eastwood was third with 297. There were 19 schools in the tournament. Woodmore had two individual champions and one runner-up. Senior Landon Emch recorded his 100th career win to earn the championship in the 144-pound weight class. Emch defeated Ian Patchen from Monroeville, 6-1, in the final. Also capturing his weight class was junior Eli Wolph at 215 pounds. Wolph pinned Brody Wilson from North Union in 4:12 to win the title. Sophomore Jack Caldwell was the runner-up at 157 pounds losing by pin to Kasen Wellman from Ayersville in the championship match. Placing third for Woodmore was senior Lukus Schaub at 120 pounds, sophomore Brant Deal at 150 pounds, junior Garrett Geldine at 165 pounds, and junior Jacob Roginski at 175 pounds. Freshman Matt Caldwell finished fourth in the 106-pound weight class.
Dec. 15 - NBC Quad at Woodmore - Woodmore 39, Genoa 33; Eastwood 43, Woodmore 27. The Wildcats had four double winners. Freshman Jack Morris won twice at 113 by forfeit. Junior Jacob Roginski won twice at 175 by pin and an overtime decision. Junior Eli Wolph won both his matches at 190 by pin as did senior Drew St. John at 285.
Dec. 8 - NBC Quad at Lake - Lake 48, Woodmore 35; Woodmore 52, Rossford 18. The Wildcats split NBC dual matches. Winning in the Lake match was: freshman Jack Morris (113, forfeit), senior Landon Emch (144, technical fall), sophomore Brant Deal (150, pin), sophomore Jack Caldwell (157, forfeit), junior Jacob Roginski (175, pin), senior Drew St. John (285, pin). Winners in the Rossford match were: freshman Matt Caldwell (106, pin), freshman Orion Kirk (113, forfeit), Morris (120, forfeit), senior Lukus Schaub (126, forfeit), Emch (144, pin), Deal (150, pin), Roginski (175, major decision), junior Eli Wolph (215, pin), St. John (285, forfeit).
Dec. 3-4 - Derr Invitational (Northwood) - The Wildcats finished fourth in the 24-team field with 182 points. Sophomore Jack Caldwell finished third at 157 pounds. Caldwell won eight of his nine matches in the tournament including his third-place match over Kian Moore from Bowsher, by pin. At 175 pounds, junior Jacob Roginski placed third winning five of his six matches, all by pin, including his third-place match over Walker Howell from Lake. Junior Eli Wolph won five of his seven matches at 215 pounds, all by pin, to place third. Wolph won his third -place match over Camron Kirtz from Swanton. And, senior Drew St. John won six of his nine matches to place third at 285 pounds. He won all his matches by pin including his third-place match over Gary Moore from Waite. Woodmore had three other wrestlers all finish fourth. Freshman Matt Caldwell was fourth at 106 pounds winning one of his six matches. He lost the third-place match to Conor Meyers from Sylvania Southview. Senior Lukas Schaub was fourth at 126 pounds winning six of his nine matches. Schaub, who had all six wins by pin, lost to David Bailey from Whitmer in the third-place match, 11-9. Junior Garrett Geldine won four of his seven matches at 165 pounds, all by pin. Geldine lost 5-1 to Grant Richardson in his third-place match. Sophomore Brant Deal was fifth at 150 pounds with a 4-2 record. He recorded all four wins by pin including his win in the fifth-place match over Mason Chamberlain from Toledo St. Francis. Freshman Jack Morris lost all six of his matches at 120 pounds.
