Both Woodmore wrestlers, sophomore Tyler Sandwisch and junior Conor Emch, stayed alive for a berth in the state tournament after the first day of the Div. III district tournament at Waite High School. Sandwisch, wrestling at 106 pounds, won his first match over Parker Grine from Hopewell-Loudon by pin in 3:56. Sandwisch then lost by pin in 58 seconds to Cole Mattin from Delta. Sandwisch will face Gage Griffith from Collins Western Reserve in his first match on Saturday. Emch, wrestling in the 132-pound weight class, lost his first match to Brady Barnett from Edison by pin in 29 seconds, but rebounded to beat Wayne Frey from Riverdale, 10-5. Emch will face Chet Magraf from Mohawk in his first match Saturday. Both Sandwisch and Emch would need to win three matches Saturday to get into the third-place match and earn a trip to the state meet. Wrestling on Saturday begins at 10 a.m.
