Three Earn All-League Honors

5/21/18 - Three players earned spots on the Northern Buckeye Conference team recently selected by the league coaches.  Sophomore Syndi Buhrow was a second-team selection at the utility position.  Buhrow hit .384 for the season with nine doubles and two home runs and a team-leading 29 RBI.  She was also the busiest pitcher on the team throwing 110.2 innings with a 4.68 ERA.  Freshman Brooke Allen and junior Katelynn Marshall earned honorable mention all-league honors.  Allen hit .377 with four doubles and a five home runs, which broke the single season school record.  Allen had 24 RBI and scored a team-high 27 runs.  She was an honorable mention selection at first base.  Marshall, who earned all-league at third base, hit .360 with a team-high 10 doubles and 15 RBI.  Woodmore finished with 12 wins this season, more than in the previous three seasons combined, and the most since the 2014 season.

Wildcats End Season on Winning Note

The Wildcats ended the season with a Northern Buckeye Conference road win.  Woodmore scored four runs in the opening inning on a pair of home runs.  Sophomore Macie Wellons hit a two-run home run in the first inning and a little later in the same frame sophomore Syndni Buhrow hit a two-run home run to stake the Wildcats to a 4-0 lead.  Wellons had an RBI single in the sixth inning and freshman Brooke Allen drove in a run in the sixth.  Junior Katelynn Marshall and senior Alex Moreno each had three hits in the game while Wellons and junior Kennedy Bringman each had two hits.  Buhrow started and pitched three innings with three strikeouts while  junior Delany Hablitzel pitched the final four innings with a pair of strikeouts.  The Wildcats ended the season with a 12-13 overall record and a 6-8 mark in NBC play.

at Woodmore 18, Rossford 17 (8 innings)
Woodmore scored runs in every inning and scored a pair of runs in the seventh inning to force extra innings and scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth to win their final game of the season and finish 7-10 overall and 3-7 in NBC games.  Sophomore Libbey Almroth had four hits in the game with three RBI while sophomore Jenna Haar had three hits with five RBI.  Sophomore Jordan Turner knocked in the winning run in the eighth inning with an infield single, her third hit of the game and second RBI.  Sophomore Grace McCarthy, sophomore Autumn Foos, and sophomore Jordan O'Reilly each had two hits.  Haar drove in the tying run in the seventh inning with a sacrifice fly while junior Sodi Reyes singled in the tying run in the eighth inning.  McCarthy started and pitched three innings with Turner tossing the final five innings.  Rossford took a 16-14 lead into the top of the seventh inning and scored one run in the top of the eighth inning.

The Wildcats scored all its runs in its final three at-bats to post the come-from-behind win at home.  Woodmore tied the game in the fourth inning on RBI singles from sophomore Lizzy Cook and sophomore Maddion Strickland.  They cut the deficit in half with one run in the fifth inning as sophomore Macie Wellons singled and freshman Brooke Allen singled.  Wellons later scored on an error.  In the deciding sixth inning, with one out, Cook singled and Strickland walked.  And infield single by junior Katelynn Marshall plated the tying run and junior Kennedy Bringman followed with a ground out that scored what turned out to be the winning run.  Cook had two hits.  Junior Delany Hablitzel started and pitched into the fourth inning with sophomore Sydni Buhrow coming on in relief and earning the win.

Three batters accounted for 12 hits and 15 RBI for the Wildcats in the win.  Sophomore Grace McCarthy started on the mound and pitched the first 3.1 innings with three strikeouts.  At the plate, McCarthy had three hits, including a double and an inside the park home run, to go along with six RBI and four runs scored.    Sophomore Jenna Haar was 5-for-6 with four singles and a double scoring five runs and driving in three.  Sophomore Autumn Foos was 4-for-4 with two doubles, four runs scored, and six RBI.  Freshman Jordan Turner pitched the final 1.2 innings with two strikeouts.

Wildcats Drop Sectional Game

Woodmore had just one less hit than Swanton in their Div. III sectional game on the road, but could not get the key hit to score enough runs for the win.  Swanton scored three runs in the opening inning on three singles that loaded the bases and a double that unloaded the bases.  Woodmore got one run back in the second when they loaded the bases with one out and Lizzy Cook drove home the run with a fielder's choice.  The Wildcats were retired on a strikeout without causing any more damage.  Swanton got a run in the third on a double and a single and made it 6-1 with two runs in the fifth inning on two doubles, a single, and a sacrifice fly.  Woodmore made it interesting in the seventh as after one out,  sophomore Maddion Strickland reached on an error, and junior Katelynn Marshall doubled to put runners on second and third.  The second out of the inning came on a runner's interference call between second and third base.  Sophomore Macie Wellons then doubled in the run and freshman Brooke Allen was intentionally walked.  The final out came on a fly ball to center field.  Junior Kennedy Bringman and senior Alex Moreno each had two hits.  Sophomore Sydni Buhrow went the distance on the mound striking out five.

Wildcats Win on the Road

A big fourth inning propelled the Wildcats to the Northern Buckeye Conference road win.  Sophomore Syndi Buhrow went the distance on the mound scattering four hits and allowing just one run.  Buhrow also collected three hits at the plate with two doubles and one RBI.  Sophomore Macie Wellons also had three hits while sophomore Lizzy Cook had a pair of hits.  Freshman Brooke Allen had one hit but it was her fifth home run of the season to eclipse the season school record of four set by Jennie Verbryke in 1991.  Allen had three RBI in the game.

Genoa 26, Woodmore 8 (5 innings)
Genoa scored in every inning and coasted to the win.  Woodmore did have seven hits in the game with freshman Emma Tucker and sophomore Grace McCarthy both collecting two hits.  Sophomore Jenna Haar had a two-run triple in the first inning for the Wildcats while Tucker and freshman Abbygaile Lawrence each had RBI hits in the third inning.  Sophomore Autumn Foos started for Woodmore and freshman Kelsi Szakovits relieved Foos in the fourth inning.

Otsego scored in every inning except one and outhit the Wildcats, 15-3, in handing Woodmore the Northern Buckeye Conference loss.  Junior Dalany Hablitzel started and pitched all the way for the Wildcats allowing five earned runs.  Sophomore Sydni Buhrow was 2-for-3 at the plate with a double while sophomore Macie Wellons had one hit and an RBI.

Otsego scored in all but one inning in winning the junior varsity game.  Sophomore Autumn Foos started for the Wildcats and pitched four innings before being relieved by sophomore Grace McCarthy who tossed the final three innings.  Woodmore scored two runs in the second inning, one on a passed ball and the other on a ground out by sophomore Jordan O'Reilly.  In the third inning sophomore Jenna Haar had a two-run triple and sophomore Libby Almroth drove home Haar with a sacrifice fly.  In the fifth inning, Foos had an RBI single and the second run scored on a wild pitch.  Foos, Haar, and Almroth all went 2-for-4 at the plate in the game.

Woodmore won the Northern Buckeye Conference game on the road collecting 13 hits.  Sophomore Sydni Buhrow started and went the distance on the mound and had 2 hits and 4 RBI.  Junior Katelynn Marshall and freshman Brooke Allen each had 3 hits with Marshall driving in 3 runs and Allen scoring 3 runs.  Marshall had 2 doubles.  Junior Kayla Bosh as 2-for-4 with a double and 4 RBI.

Woodmore Starts State Tournament on the Road

5/3/18 - The Woodmore softball team will begin the Div. III state tournament trail on the road at Swanton on May 8 at 5 p.m.  Swanton plays at a field located in Memorial Park off of South Main Street in Swanton. The sectional semifinal game will feature the Wildcats, the #9 seed in the Maumee district against Swanton, the #8 seed.  Admission for the game will be $6 for adults and $4 for students.  The winner of the Woodmore-Swanton game advances to meet Otsego on May 11 at 5 p.m. in the sectional final.  Otsego is the #3 seed in the district.

The Wildcats scored early then rode the pitching of junior Delany Hablitzel to the home Northern Buckeye Conference win.  Hablitzel pitched the complete game two-hitter while junior Kennedy Bringman had three hits.  Junior Katelynn Marshall had a two-run double while senior Alex Moreno, sophomore Macie Wellons, and sophomore Lizzy Cook each had RBI singles.

The Wildcats had one hit through six innings when they broke through for two hits in the seventh inning and combined with three North Baltimore errors they scored four runs, but that was not enough for the win.  Junior Delany Hablitzel went the distance on the mound for the Wildcats and recorded eight strikeouts.  Sophomore Autumn Foos, sophomore Libby Almroth, and junior Makayla Throop had the Woodmore hits.
