Wildcats Win Div. III District Title for Second Consecutive Year

5/20/17 - The track and field team did not have a champion on the second day of the Div. III district 2 meet at Gibsonburg, but had placers in 11 different events enough to win the team title with 101 points.  St. Joseph Central Catholic was second with 89 points.  Woodmore added regional qualifiers (top four finishers in each event qualify for the regional meet next week in Tiffin) in 10 events on the second day of the district meet.  They had qualifiers in two events on the first day.  The best finishes on the second day were three runner-up finishes.  Senior Samantha Sedlmeier was second in the 1600 with a time of 5:45.17, freshman Claire Rothert was the runner-up in the 300 hurdles running 48.39, and senior Lily Rothert was second in the 800 with a time of 2:25.18.  Woodmore had three third-place finishes.  The 800 relay team of senior Camryn Bench, Lily Rothert, Claire Rothert, and junior Emily Wegert placed third in a time of 1:49.76, Sedlmeier was third in the 3200 with a time of 12:49.65, and junior Annalicia Torres was third in the discus with a best of 114-5.  Earning spots in the next week's regional met by getting the fourth and final qualifying spot was Claire Rothert in the 100 hurdles (16.57), senior Kate Barbee in the 3200 (13:21.69), and Koenig in the long jump (15-8 3/4).  The 400 relay team of Bench, Koenig, Claire Rothert, and Wegert was fourth in a time of 53.10.  Also placing and helping the Wildcats to their second successive district title was: Koenig in the 100 hurdles (6th, 19.93), Wegert in the 100 (5th, 13.02) and 200 (5th, 26.97), Barbee in the 1600 (5th, 6:14.28), and Lily Rothert in the long jump (6th, 14-8/1/2). Woodmore has now won the Div. III district title in each of the last two years and in 2015 they placed second, four points behind the team champion.  Woodmore has 11 athletes advancing to next week's Div. III regional meet in Tiffin at Frost Kalnow Stadium behind Tiffin Columbian High School in 11 different events.
