Wildcats Are District Runners-up; Advance in 9 Events for Regionals

The varsity track and field team was the Div. III runner-up at the district meet hosted by Gibsonburg High School. The Widlcats finished with 106 points, four fewer than district champion Gibsonburg. With athletes having already qualified for the Div. III regional meet next week in Tiffin in three events (3200 relay, high jump, shot put) on the first day of the district meet, Woodmore will send athletes in six more events to the regional meet after finishing in the top four on the final day of the district meet. Qualifying for the regional meet was senior Courtney Burner in the 1600 after finishing second in a time of 5:29.54 and she qualified in the 800 where she also placed second in a time of 2:28.42. Also earning a spot in the 400 event at the regional meet was junior Jesse Wegert after placing fourth in a time of 2:29.95. The Wildcats will have at least one athlete in all five field events after they had athletes advance in all three field events on the final day of the district meet. Freshman Annalicia Torres will compete in the discus at the regional meet after finishing third with a best of 107-0. Woodmore had two athletes move forward in the pole vault as junior Jessica Sotak was second clearing 8-6 and senior Sarah Blausey was fourth finishing at 8-0. And, sophomore Liz Koenig will participate in the long jump after finishing second with a best of 15-8. Also advancing to the regional meet was the 400 relay quartet of Blausey, Wegert, sophomore Camryn Bench, and sophomore Amber Zarella who were the district runners-up with a time of 53.39. Just missing regional tickets with fifth-place finishes but scoring team points was freshman Carly Rothert in the 100 hurdles (17.95) and long jump (14-11 3/4), sophomore Samantha Sedlmeier in the 3200 (12:57.38), and the 1600 relay team of freshman Maddie Morris, Wegert, freshman Christy Cruz, and Burner (4:27.81). Other Woodmore athletes who placed in their respcetive events included Bench in the 100 (8th, 14.08) and 200 (6th, 28.58), Morris in the 400 (8th, 1:08.29) and Rothert in the 300 hurdles (6th, 52.50).
