Woodmore Earns Home Win; Clair Claims His 100th Victory; Wildcats Finish Second in NBC

2/16/17 - Varsity - The Wildcats broke open the game after a close first quarter, outscoring Rossford 12-2 in the second quarter to build a 27-18 halftime advantage and they went on to post a 50-38 win.  The Wildcats maintained the edge in the second half outscoring the Bulldogs by three, 23-20.  Eight Wildcats scored in the game but only one player, senior Lily Rothert, reached double figures scoring 15 points.  Sophomore Nora LaMunyon scored nine points and sophomore Katie Brugger added eight points.  The win was the 100th in the career of head coach Kyle Clair, who is in his ninth season at Woodmore.  He is the second girls coach to reach the milestone and fifth, including the boys program, to reach the 100-win plateau.  The win also clinched solo second place in the Northern Buckeye Conference.  Junior varsity - The Wildcats trailed at the end of the first three quarters, but won the all-important fourth quarter, 14-6, to earn a 34-28 win over Rossford.  Freshman Jordan Nighswander led the Wildcats with 13 points, nine in the third quarter, while freshman Macie Wellons, and sophomores Maddie Thatcher and Paige Schmeltz each had six points.  Schmeltz and Thatcher led the fourth-quarter comeback scoring all of their points in the final stanza.
