Wildcats Win on the Road

12/21/17 - Varsity - Woodmore 42, at Genoa 41. Senior Hayley Freund canned a three-pointer from the top of the key with 9.1 seconds left to give the Wildcats the win.  Woodmore held small leads after each of the first three quarters - 7-6 after one, 19-13 at halftime, and 30-24 after three.  But, Genoa got back into the game in the fourth quarter eventually taking the lead (38-37) with 1:50 left on a three-point basket.  Sophomore Jordan Nighswander made one-of-two free tosses with 1:32 left to tie the score.  Genoa made two free throws with 40.7 seconds left to take a two-point edge which set up the winning basket by Freund.  Woodmore missed its initial shot attempt, but it was rebounded and thrown out to the top of the key to Freund who hit the game-winner.  Genoa's shot at the buzzer missed the mark.  Midway through the second quarter, Woodmore had forged a 15-7 lead on an 8-1 run and they maintained a three to six-point lead until the fourth quarter.  Junior Katie Brugger led the Wildcats with 16 points while junior Nora LaMunyon added nine points and Nighswander scored eight points.  The winning field goal by Freund was her second of the game having hit a two-pointer previously.  Junior Varsity - Woodmore 35, at Genoa 30.  Woodmore led at the end of each quarter, but by small margins, in a game that wasn't decided until late in the fourth quarter.  The Wildcats outscored Genoa, 13-9, in the fourth quarter.  Freshman Olivia Thatcher scored 12 points and sophomore Sydni Buhrow had 11 points for the Wildcats.
