Wildcats Fall Short at St. Joe

2/3/18 - Varsity - at St. Joseph Central Catholic 63, Woodmore 52.  The Wildcats had the game tied at 43-all heading to the fourth quarter, but 12 unanswered points in the middle of the final frame by St. Joe proved to be the difference.  St. Joe scored the first seven points of the game and led 17-13 after one quarter.  Woodmore still trailed, 29-24, at halftime.  A 19-14 advantage by Woodmore in the third quarter forged the 43-all tie.  Woodmore held one lead in the quarter, 41-39 with 2:27 left.  Woodmore scored the first field goal of the final quarter to take a 45-43 lead, but St. Joe then made its 12-0 run to take a 55-45 lead with 3:37 to play.  Woodmore countered with five unanswered points to cut the deficit to 55-50 with 1:01 left.  The teams then traded field goals to make it 57-52 with 35.1 seconds left.  St. Joe then converted its next four free throws to put the game away.  Senior Hayley Freund canned five three-point field goals to score 15 points while freshman Brooke Allen also scored 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.  Junior Katie Brugger scored nine points and sophomore Claire Rothert added eight points.  Woodmore had two more field goals than St. Joe (20 to 18), but St. Joe was 20-of-24 at the charity stripe while Woodmore was 6-of-9.  Junior Varsity - Woodmore 45, at St. Joseph CC 9.  Woodmore led 15-0 after the first quarter and 30-1 at halftime and coasted to the victory.  Freshman Sierra Cantley scored nine points, sophomore Sydni Buhrow added eight points, freshman Olivia thatcher scored six points, and junior Paige Schmeltz had five points.
