2/23/17 - The Wildcats (15-9) took the lead late in the first quarter of their Div. III sectional final game at Springfield High School against Delta and held an advantage until less than two minutes remained in the game when Delta forced overtime and eventually downed Woodmore, 55-50.  Woodmore led 15-10 after one quarter and built as much as a 10-point lead in the second quarter (24-14 with 5:43 left) before settling for a 26-20 lead at the break.  Delta outscored the Wildcats, 11-7, in the third quarter to pull within 33-31 entering the final quarter.  In the fourth quarter, Woodmore outscored the Panthers 9-4 to turn a 35-33 lead with 7:07 left into a 44-37 advantage with 3:39 left.  But, Delta would score the next nine points in succession to take their first lead since the opening quarter, 46-44, with 1:31 left.  Just three seconds later, senior Lily Rothert sank a pair of free throws to even the score.  Delta turned the ball over with 1:01 left, but Woodmore missed two shots before turning the ball over with 16.9 seconds left giving Delta the last shot.  Delta missed a 16-footer at the buzzer and the two teams were headed for extra time.  Woodmore scored first in overtime, a rebound layup from senior Makenzie Hoffman with 2:46 left, but Delta would score the next nine points unanswered, to take a 55-48 lead with 6.4 seconds left.  A Delta lay up with 2:29 left tied the score at 48, and a three-pointer with 1:52 left gave Delta the lead for good.  From there, Delta made 4-of-6 free throws as Woodmore missed shots on two possessions and turned the ball over in their other possession.  Woodmore was guilty of 23 turnovers in the game.  Rothert led the Wildcats with 14 points while junior Hayley Freund hit three three-pointers on her way to 11 points.  Senior Kate Barbee had eight points, sophomore Katie Brugger added seven, and sophomore Nora LaMunyon six.  Hoffman ended the game with four points.
