Wildcats Earn Important Road NBC Win

1/3/17 - Varsity - The Wildcats (7-4, 4-2 NBC) outscored Elmwood 29-17 in the middle two quarters on their way to a 43-39 road win in Northern Buckeye Conference play.  By winning the second quarter 13-7, Woodmore took an 18-17 lead to the locker room at halftime.  WHS extended its lead in the third quarter to seven points on two occasions, the last at 34-27 at the end of the quarter.  A 5-1 run for the Wildcats to start the fourth quarter ballooned the lead to 39-28 with 6:41 left on a field goal by junior Hayley Freund who led Woodmore with 13 points.  A layup by senior Liz Koenig with 1:41 left gave the Wildcats a 41-31 lead.  Woodmore still led 42-33 with 26.1 seconds left on one free throw from Koenig before Elwmood sank two three-point field goals in the final 12.6 seconds to close the gap.  The Wildcats converted just 2-of-6 free throws down the stretch to allow Elmwood to tighten the game, but they held on for the win.  Woodmore was 11-of-22 from the line for the game.  Senior Lily Rothert added 10 points while senior Kate Barbee had five points, five steals, and six rebounds.  Senior Camryn Bench also had five points.  Junior varsity - Elmwood outscored the Wildcats 19-10 in the final quarter to extend a small advantage to the start the quarter to a 44-30 win.  Woodmore trailed by five points at halftime (13-8) and after three quarters (25-20).  Freshman Claire Rothert scored all nine of her points in the second half to lead the team.  Sophomore Alex Liskai added seven points.
