Wildcats Hold on for Home Victory

2/9/17 - Varsity - Woodmore (12-8, 8-4 NBC) turned a close game after one quarter into a 24-11 lead at halftime then hung on to earn a 39-36 win at home over Elmwood.  The Wildcats outscored the Royals, 18-4, in the second quarter to take the advantage at halftime after trailing 7-6 after one quarter.  Elmwood made it interesting down the stretch getting as close as one point with one minute left before the Wildcats converted their free throws late to close out the win.  Woodmore started the fourth quarter with a 32-21 lead, and led by as much as 12 points early in the fourth quarter until Elmwood rattled off 11 unanswered point to make it interesting in the end.  Elmwood had two three-point shots in the final seconds to try to force a tie and overtime.  Senior Lily Rothert scored 14 points to lead the Wildcats while sophomore Katie Brugger, who keyed the second quarter run by Woodmore, scored 12 points.  Brugger had 10 of her 12 points in the second quarter.  Junior Varsity - Woodmore held the lead at the end of each of the first three quarters on their way to a 37-24 win.  Woodmore outscored the Royals, 22-10, in the second half after holding a slim 15-14 lead at halftime.  Freshman Macie Wellons led the Wildcats with 10 points, while freshman Sydni Buhrow and sophomore Makayla Throop each contributed six points.
