Four Players on All-League Team

12/1/17 - Four Woodmore players landed spots on the Northern Buckeye Conference all-league team selected by the league coaches.  Senior Derrick Berkel was a second-team receiver after leading the team with 31 catches for 421 yards (13.6 avg.) and three touchdowns.  Senior quarterback Donovan Reyes earned honorable mention honors.  He completed 71-of-142 passes for 879 yards and six touchdowns for the season.  Senior Zach Matwiejczyk was an honorable mention selection at linebacker after leading the team with 36 tackles.  He was also the teams leading  rusher with 103 carries for 492 yards (4.8 avg.) and three touchdowns.  Freshman Aaron Sandrock earned a spot on the honorable mention defensive unit in the secondary.  He was second on the team with 33 tackles.

Wildcats End Season With Victory

10/27/17 - The Woodmore football team (2-8, 1-6 NBC) ended the season on a positive note with a 31-22 win over Elmwood at Wildcat Stadium in a game that was played in a steady rain throughout.  Elmwood scored first in the opening quarter on a long run before Woodmore countered with a touchdown by junior Taityn Rollins on a 71-yard kickoff return.  Both teams converted two-point runs after the touchdowns and the teams were tied at 8-all after one quarter.  Woodmore would do all the scoring in the second quarter as senior Derrick Berkel scored on a 43-yard pass play from senior quarterback Donovan Reyes to give the Wildcats a 14-8 lead.  Woodmore added a one-yard run from freshman Aaron Sandrock, who also added the two-point run, and WHS had a 22-8 advantage.  Then as the clock ran out in the first half, senior Cole Cutchall converted a 24-yard field goal and Woodmore led 25-8 at the break.  Elmwood had two long runs for touchdowns in the third quarter sandwiched around a Sandrock 19-yard run to complete the scoring.  Neither team scored in the fourth quarter although after the score was 31-22, Elmwood moved the ball to the Woodmore four-yard line with about four minutes to play where they turned the ball over on downs and Woodmore ran the clock out.  Elmwood had a 248-192 edge in total offense and Woodmore had a 12-11 edge in first downs.  All of Elmwood's yards were on the ground by Levi Garner who ran 38 times for 250 yards. Reyes was 4-for-6 passing before leaving the game in the second quarter with an ankle injury which required him to be taken to the hospital.  Senior Zack Matwiejczyk carried the offensive load on the ground for the Wildcats rushing 28 times for 98 yards.  Woodmore ran 49 plays in the game, Elmwood 47.

Wildcats Drop Home Contest to Lake

10/20/17 - The Woodmore football team (1-8, 0-6 NBC) saw Lake score 49 consecutive points after the Wildcats returned the opening kickoff for 90 yards and a touchdown.  Junior Taityn Rollins returned the kickoff for the score, but then Lake went on to score 42 points in the first quarter.  All seven Lake touchdowns were scored on running plays with 19 yards the longest one.  Lake had 411-65 edge in total offense.  Lake rushed for 411 yards on 48 carries while Woodmore had 44 yards passing and 21 yards rushing.

Wildcats Drop NBC Game at Genoa

10/6/17 - The Wildcats lost a 56-0 decision at Genoa in Northern Buckeye Conference play.  Genoa led 42-0 at halftime.  The Wildcats had an opportunity to score with their first possession of the game driving to the Genoa 17-yard line before turning the ball over on downs.  Woodmore had one other good opportunity to score in the fourth quarter getting as deep as the Genoa three-yard line before turning the ball over on an interception.  Genoa had a 543-149 edge in total offense, rushing for 485 of those yards.  All eight of Genoa's touchdowns came on running plays.  Senior quarterback Donovan Reyes completed 9-of-17 passes for 110 yards with senior Zach Matwiejczyk catching two passes for 57 yards and junior Taityn Rollins hauled in four balls for 35 yards.  Freshman Aaron Sandrock carried the ball three times for 32 yards.

Wildcats Lose NBC Home Game

9/29/17 - The Woodmore football team scored an early touchdown to even the score with visiting Otsego at 7-all.  But, Otsego would score the next 42 points, all before halftime, before the Wildcats would get on the scoreboard again.  After Otsego scored on its first possession of the game, the Wildcats responded with a 66-yard run for a touchdown by senior Zach Matwiejczyk to tie the score.  But, Otsego would score on its next six possessions to take a 49-7 lead into the locker room.  Woodmore completed the scoring on a 63-yard pass-run play from freshman quarterback Aaron Sandrock to senior Derrick Berkel in the fourth quarter.  Otsego outgained the Wildcats, 469-175, as Woodmore rushed for 106 yards and passed for 69, while Otsego rushed for 218 yards and passed for 241.  Otsego had 408 yards of total offense in the first half.

9/22/17 - The Woodmore football team lost a 61-0 decision at home to Fostoria in a Northern Buckeye Conference game.  Fostoria scored at least two touchdowns in each of the four quarters building leads of 20-0 after one quarter, 34-0 at halftime, and 48-0 after three quarters.  Fostoria had a 559 to 137 edge in total yards and a 19-7 edge in first downs.  Senior Donovan Reyes was 5-of-14 passing for 67 yards and senior Zach Matwiejczyk gained 28 yards on four carries to lead the running backs.  Senior Derrick Berkel caught three passes for 39 yards.  Woodmore had 70 yards rushing and 67 passing while Fostoria had 299 passing and 260 rushing.
