Burner Earns Trip To State; Girls 13th, Emerine 23rd

Woodmore senior Courtney Burner earned a trip to the Div. III state cross country meet with a 16th-place finish in the regional meet at Hedges Boyer Park in Tiffin. Burner earned the last spot out of the regional meet with a time of 19:47.3. Burner was 10th with 50 yards left to the finish line but was laboring badly. Before reaching the finish line Burner fell, but was able to get back up and cross the finish line 16th earning a ticket to the state meet. The Wildcat girls team finished 13th in the 16-team field (268 pts.) at Tiffin with junior Samantha Sedlmeier placing 37th in a time of 20:39.1 and senior Jordan Grzegorczyk finishing 62nd in 21:19.5. Junior Noelle Freund was 107th in 23:20.1, junior Kate Barbee was 125th in 24:00.0, and senior Jessica Sotak was 131st in 24:37.1. The lone male representative at the regional meet was senior Nick Emerine. He finished 23rd running a time of 17:06.3. The top 16 indiviudals and top four teams advance to the state meet. The state meet will be contested next Saturday (Nov. 7) at National Trail Raceway in Hebron. The Div. III girls race is the first of the day and will start at 11 a.m. The last girls competitor in the state meet for the Wildcats was Lacy Nagy in 2010. Nagy was a 4-time state qualifier and twice earned All-Ohio honors.
