5/24/17 - The track and field team had two state qualifiers and were third in the team standings after the first day of the Div. III regional meet at Tiffin.  Woodmore had 12 points on the first day to trail only Eastwood, with 40 points, and Liberty Center, with 14 points.  The two state qualifiers were senior Ben Wilt, who placed third in the discus with a best of 157-10, and senior JT Atkin where his best in the long jump of 21-10 was also good for a third-place finish.  The top four finishers in any regional event final earn a ticket to next week's state meet in Columbus.  The boys will have two relay teams running on Friday in the finals after placing in the prelims (the top eight in a preliminary event advance to the finals).  The 800 relay contingent of Atkin, junior Eli Rogers, freshman Daniel Giesler, and junior Jeremy Schiavone were second in their heat and fourth overall in a time of 1:33.18.  The same foursome runs the 400 relay and were third in their heat and sixth overall in a time of 45.06.  Schiavone qualified in the 100 and 200 and came up short of qualifying for the finals in both events.  In the 100, he was sixth in his heat and 12th overall in a time of 11.62, and he just missed advancing in the 200 placing sixth in his heat and ninth overall in a time of 23.13, just .02 off the time of the eighth-place finisher.  Freshman Cole Sotak also qualified for the regional meet in the pole vault.  He placed 15th clearing a height of 11-0.  The state meet will be held at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on the Ohio State University campus next week.  The discus and long jump competition will be held at 4 p.m. on Friday (June 2).
