Wildcats Second After First Day of District Meet

5/18/17 - The Woodmore track and field team is second after the first day of the Div. III district meet hosted by Gibsonburg.  The Wildcats have 16 points to trail only Northern Buckeye Conference champion Eastwood which has 73 points.  Sandusky St. Mary CC and Toledo Christian each have 13 points while Elmwood has 11.5 points and Lakota 11 points.  There were five event finals on the first day and Woodmore had a placer in three of them.  Senior JT Atkin earned a spot in next week's regional meet in Tiffin by placing third in the long jump with a best of 19-11 (the top four in each event final advance to the regional meet).  Also earning a regional berth was freshman Cole Sotak in the pole vault where he cleared 12-4 to place third.  Senior Ben Wilt placed in the shot put with a best of 47-2 1/4, but his fifth-place finish was one spot shy of a regional berth. The 3200 relay team of freshman Nick Reedy, sophomore Ethan Davis, freshman Jonathan Kigar, and freshman Pierce Overmyer ran in the event final and placed 13th in a time of 10:10.14.  In preliminary events, where the top eight advance to the Saturday final (except in the 1600 and 800 where the top 16 advance), junior Jeremy Schiavone posted the fastest time in the preliminary of the 100 (11.52) and the 200 (23.31) to advance to Saturday.  Also advancing to Saturday where the 800 and 400 relay teams of Atkin, junior Eli Rogers, freshman Daniel Giesler, and Schiavone after they posted the second-best times in both relays.  The foursome ran 1:32.66 in the 800 and 44.79 in the 400.  Freshman Paul Koenig earned a spot in the 1600 final placing eighth in a time of 4:53.89 in the prelim and sophomore Jimmy Grzegorczyk will run in the 800 final after placing 16th in the prelim with a time of 2:15.53.  The finals for the district meet begins at 9 a.m. with the field events.  Woodmore boys and girls teams will be competing Saturday at Gibsonburg High School.
