6/2/17 - The Wildcat boys track and field team had athletes in three events at the Div. III state meet in Columbus and two came home having placed.  The boys team will end the state meet with seven points, which is tied for 15th-place after the first day.  The finals in the running events will take place tomorrow.  Senior Ben Wilt earned the best finish for the Wildcats by placing third in the discus competition.  Wilt had his best throw on his first effort in the prelims when he had a toss of 167-4, eight feet farther that he had ever thrown in competition.  He backed up his first throw with a toss of 166-9 on his second effort.  He finished third in his flight and was third overall heading into the finals.  The winning throw was 171-6.  Wilt's best throw was just over five feet short of the school record (172-8) set by Jon Giesler in 1974.  The other placer for the Wildcats was senior JT Atkin in the long jump.  Atkin's best effort was his first of the prelims in which he jumped 21-2.  He finished third in his flight and was sixth going into the finals.  He didn't improve on his best effort in the prelims to finish eighth overall.  The other state qualifier was the 800 relay team of Atkin, junior Eli Rogers, freshman Daniel Giesler, and junior Jeremy Schiavone.  The foursome finished 11th (top nine advance to Saturday finals) in a time of 1:32.52, .35 off the time of the ninth-place team.  They were sixth in their heat.
