League Co-Champs Put Seven on All-League Team

11/8/17 - The Woodmore boys soccer team had seven players named to the Northern Buckeye Conference all-league team as selected by the league's coaches.  Woodmore, league co-champions with Lake, had four first-team selections.  Junior Sam Barbee and senior Cole Cutchall were both first-team selections at a defender position while junior Hayden Heidebrink earned a spot at midfield on the first team and senior goalkeeper Kevin Paul shared that position with Brandon Thielen from Lake on the first team.  Juniors Brandon Blausey and Alec Garcia along with senior Eli Rogers each earned second-team honors.  Blausey was a pick as a midfielder while Rogers and Garcia for tabbed at the forward position.  Paul earned the Golden Glove Award for allowing the fewest goals in NBC games this season.  Jack Ford from Genoa was selected as the Player of the Year.

Successful Season Ends in District Semifinal

10/24/17 - The Woodmore boys soccer team (14-5) saw its successful season end in the Div. III district semifinal in Tiffin where state-ranked Mansfield Christian posted a 4-0 victory.  Mansfield scored all four goals in the first half, including three goals in a 15-minute span in the middle part of the half.  Mansfield Christian scored their fourth goal with 24 seconds left in the first half.  They had scored their goals with 30:04 left in the first half, 21:33 left, and 15:05 left.  The Wildcats had two good opportunities to score in the first three minutes of the the game having one point blank shot blocked and one saved by the goalie.  Junior Hayden Heidebrink hit the upright with a free kick with four minutes left in the first half.  Senior Kevin Paul had eight saves in goal for the Wildcats.

Wildcats Advance to District

10/21/17 - The boys soccer team advanced to next week's Div. III district tournament with a 7-0 win at Wildcat Stadium over Old Fort.  Woodmore had seven different players score goals in a game they led 3-0 at halftime.  Junior Sam Barbee got the wildcats going with a goal with 27:54 left in the first half.  Junior Hayden Heidebrink had the first of three assists in the game on the Barbee goal.  Junior Brandon Blausey found the back of the net with 24:27 left off a pass from Heidebrink.  Junior Alec Garcia closed the first half with a tally with 17:08 left as senior Eli Rogers got the assist.  Rogers scored with 36:31 left in the second half and Heidebrink followed with a goal at 32:38, from senior Cole Cutchall.  Cutchall then scored with 28:14 left, with Heidebrink assisting, and senior Kevin Paul scored on a penalty kick with 14:58 left.  Paul had two saves in the game to earn the shutout.  The Wildcats, the #4 seed, will play Mansfield Christian, the #2 seed, in the district semifinal on Tuesday.  That contest is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start at Frost Kalnow Stadium in Tiffin behind Tiffin Columbian High School.  The game is the second of two played that evening with the first game starting at 5 p.m. featuring #1 seed Van Buren against #3 seed Oak Harbor.

Wildcats Open State Tournament With Victory

10/17/17 - The boys soccer team opened Div. III state tournament play with a 5-1 win at home over Northern Buckeye Conference foe Eastwood.  The Wildcats opened the scoring just 19 seconds into the game as senior Eli Rogers found the back of the net off a pass form junior Hayden Heidebrink.   A little less than four minutes later, Rogers made it 2-0 scoring with 35:44 left in the first half as junior Sam Barbee drew the assist.  About 10 minutes later, the Wildcats would put two more goals on the board in just over a minute.  Sophomore Paul Koenig scored with 25:14 left to stake the Wildcats to a 3-0 lead.  Heidebrink assisted on the goal.  Koenig came back 1:12 later, with 24:02 left in the half, to score off a pass from Rogers.  Junior Alec Garcia added a fifth goal with 19:56 left in the game off a pass from Rogers.  Eastwood scored with 8:28 left.  Senior Kevin Paul had seven saves in goal for the Wildcats.  The Wildcats advance to face 11th-seeded Old Fort Saturday (Oct. 21).  The Wildcats, the #4-seed, will host Old Fort at a time to be announced.

Wildcats Lost to State-Ranked Archbold in Regular Season Finale

10/10/17 - The Woodmore boys soccer (12-4, 9-1 NBC) team went on the road to battle state-ranked Archbold and lost a 3-0 decision.  Archbold was ranked fifth in the latest Div. III state poll.  Senior Kevin Paul was credited with 12 saves in goal.  The game was the final regular season contest of the season and broke a 10-game Wildcat winning streak.  Woodmore will begin Div. III state tournament play Tuesday (Oct. 17) when they host Eastwood at 5 p.m. in the sectional semifinal game.  Woodmore is the #4 seed in the district while Eastwood is seeded 12th.  The winner of that game advances to play #11 seed Old Fort on Oct. 21.  Tickets for the sectionals and district games are $6 for adults and $4 for students and are only available at the game.

Wildcats Begin State Tournament Oct. 17

10/9/17 - The Woodmore boys soccer team opens Div. III state tournament play hosting Eastwood at 5 p.m. at Wildcat Stadium in a sectional contest on Oct. 17.  Woodmore is the #4 seed and Eastwood is the #12 seed.  Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for students.  All tickets will be sold at the game.  The winner of the Woodmore-Eastwood game will play Oct. 21 in the sectional final.

Wildcats Earn Piece of League Title

10/5/17 - The Woodmore boys soccer team (12-3-0, 9-1-0 NBC) earned at least a share of the Northern Buckeye Conference title with a 3-1 win at Eastwood.  Lake has one league game remaining and has an 8-1 league record.  The Wildcats had a 1-0 lead at halftime of the Eastwood game on the strength of a goal by junior Hayden Heidebrink.  After Eastwood tied it, junior Alec Garcia put the Wildcats ahead for good with a goal and Heidebrink drew the assist.  A little later, senior Eli Rogers iced the win with a goal as Garcia earned the assist.  Senior Kevin Paul made 10 saves in goal.  Woodmore has now won 10 straight games outscoring the opposition, 45-9, during the streak.

Wildcats Continue Winning Ways

9/30/17 - The Woodmore boys soccer team went on the road in Northern Buckeye Conference play and earned a 4-2 win at Genoa.  Senior Eli Rogers and junior Hayden Heidebrink each had two goals as the Wildcats built a 2-0 edge at halftime.  Junior Sam Barbee had two assists and Cole Anthony one.  Senior Kevin Paul had four saves in goal.  Woodmore is now 11-3 overall and 8-1 in league play and hey have won nine games in a row.

Wildcats Win at Home; Extend Win Streak to Eight

9/28/17 - The boys soccer team moved into a tie for first place in the Northern Buckeye Conference earning a 3-1 win at home over Lake, who was previously undefeated in league play.  Woodmore led 2-0 at halftime on the strength of a goal from junior Alex Garcia with 23:05 left in the opening half.  Sophomore Paul Koenig had the assist on the goal.  Freshman Zach Hunt then scored an unassisted goal with 15:55 left.  Lake cut the deficit in half with a goal with 36:59 left in the game.  But, Garcia iced the game with a tally with 4:37 left as junior Hayden Heidebrink got the assist.  Senior Kevin Paul made 21 saves in goal.  Both teams now have one league loss apiece.  Woodmore has two league games remaining, Lake three.
