Wildcats Put Eight on All-League Teams

11/6/18 - Northern Buckeye Conference champions Woodmore put eight players on the all-league team recently selected by the head coaches in the league.  Earning spots on the first team was seniors Sam Barbee, Hayden Heidebrink, and Alec Garcia.  Barbee earned one of the four spots as a defender after anchoring a Wildcat defense that recorded three shutouts this season and allowed just one goal in four other games.  Barbee had two goals and six assists for the season.  Heidebrink was a selection at midfield and Shuler as a forward after leading the offensive attack which scored 109 goals this season, a school record.  Heidebrink, who was also a first team all-league pick last season, scored 27 goals and had 28 assists this season.  His 27 goals is the third-best single-season in school history and his 28 assists were the most in school history.  Heidebrink also holds the school record with 46 career assists while his 43 career goals is third-best in school history.  Garcia, who was a second team selection last season, scored 34 goals and had 11 assists this season.  His 34 goals is a single-season school record and pushed his career total to 58, also the school standard.  Garcia had six goals against Genoa this season to establish the school single-game record.  Earning spots on the second team was senior Ethan Mason, at defender, and senior Brandon Blausey, at midfield.  Mason did not have a point this season, but along with Barbee, gave the Wildcats a strong defensive presence.  Blausey had 12 goals and six assists for the season.  Senior Ezekiel Treter and freshman C.J. Buchanan each earned a spot on the honorable mention team.  Treter, a defender, did not have a point this season, but was another key player for the Wildcats defensively.  Buchanan, a forward who also played some in goal this season, had six goals and one assist.

Heartbreaker Ends Boys Season

10/27/18 - The boys soccer season came to an end with a 3-2 overtime loss to top-seeded Van Buren in the Div. III district final game at Tiffin Columbian.  Van Buren led 2-0 at halftime before Woodmore got goals from junior Paul Koenig, with 22:59 left, and senior Brandon Blausey, with 3:03 left, to force overtime.  But, Van Buren netted the game-winner with 5:42 left in the first overtime.  Sophomore Zach Hunt had 21 saves in goal.  Woodmore was the #2 seed in the district.  The Wildcats finish the season with a 17-3-0 record, a school record for wins in a season.

Wildcats Will Play for District Title Saturday

10/24/18 - The Woodmore boys soccer team will play for a district title Saturday after earning a 5-1 win over Eastwood in the Div. III district semifinal game at Frost Kalnow Stadium in Tiffin.  Senior Hayden Heidebrink scored the only first half goal with 22:26 left, junior Paul Koenig got the assist, and the Wildcats led 1-0 at the break.  Eastwood tied the game with 31:57 left in the game before Heidebrink's second goal with 17:22 remaining put the Wildcats in front for good.  With 8:04 left, senior Alec Garcia put one in the back of the net and then he added another goal with 4:52 left to make it 4-1.  Koenig assisted on Garcia's second tally.  Koenig completed the scoring with a goal with 1:26 left on an assist from senior Cole Anthony.  Woodmore had 36 shots in the game and sophomore Zach Hunt made nine saves in goal.  Heidebrink played the last 10 minutes of the game in goal and made two saves.  The Wildcats, the #2 seed in the district, will battle top seed, Van Buren, a 6-1 winner over Ada in the first district semifinal game, on Saturday back at Tiffin.  The start time for the district championship game has not been announced.

Wildcats Advance to District With Home Win

10/17/18 - The Woodmore boys soccer team earned a hard-fought 3-2 win at home over Riverdale to advance to the Div. III district tournament at Tiffin Columbian next week.  The Wildcats opened the scoring just 3:30 into the game when junior Paul Koenig's throw in went off the goalie hands and into the net.  After Riverdale tied the score at one with a goal 1:15 before halftime, Woodmore regained the advantage on the goal by senior Alec Garcia with 25:19 left in the game.  Senior Cole Anthony assisted on the Garcia goal.  After Riverdale tied the game at 2-all 30 seconds after Garcia's goal, the game-winner came from senior Hayden Heidebrink on a penalty kick with 9:53 remaining.  Sophomore Zach Hunt had six saves in goal while Heidebrink played the final 8:22 of the game in goal and made two saves.  Woodmore had 29 shots.  The Wildcats will play the winner of the Eastwood-Mansfield St. Peter game in the 7 p.m. district semifinal March 24.  The first district semifinal game will begin at 5 p.m. and will feature the winner of the Van Buren-Liberty-Benton game against the Willard-Ada winner.  Van Buren is the #1 seed in the district and Woodmore is #2.

Wildcats Start Tournament Trail With Win

10/15/18 - Div. III Sectional - at Woodmore 9, Old Fort 2.  The Wildcats scored four goals in four minutes midway through the first half and went on to the win in Div. III sectional play.  The game was played at Wildcat Stadium.  After senior Hayden Heidebrink broke the scoring ice with a goal with 35:52 left in the first half on a pass from freshman C.J. Buchanan, sophomore Zach Hunt scored the next two that started the four goals in four minutes outburst by the Wildcats.  Hunt scored at 25:56 and 22:47 while senior Cole 
Anthony made it 4-0 at 22:36 and senior Brandon Blausey found the back of the net at 21:52 and it was 5-0.  Senior Sam Barbee assisted on Hunt's first goal and junior Juan Moreno assisted on Hunt's second.  Heidebrink would add his second with 15:06 left in the first half, on a pass from Blausey, and senior Alec Garcia made it 7-0 at the break with a tally at 6:46 from Barbee.  In the second half the two team alternated goals.  After an Old Fort goal, Barbee notched a goal (at 28:07) from Garcia.  And after a second Old Fort goal, Garcia scored with just 3:49 left.  Woodmore goalkeepers, junior Paul Koenig and Heidebrink, totalled seven saves in the game.  Woodmore advanced to the Div. III sectional final on Wednesday (Oct. 17) when they host Riverdale at 5 p.m. at Wildcat Stadium.  Woodmore is the #2 seed in the district and Riverdale is the #5 seed.

Wildcats End NBC Season Perfect

10/11/18 - The boys soccer team concluded its regular season schedule with 6-0 win at Otsego to conclude league play with a 10-0-0 record.  The Northern Buckeye Conference champions led 1-0 at halftime then exploded in the second half.  Seniors Alec Garcia and Hayden Heidebrink both had two goals and two assists in the game.  Garcia's two goals pushed his season total to 29 eclipsing the school record of 28 set by Malachi Brown in 2011.  Other Woodmore goals were scored by freshman C.J. Buchanan and junior Juan Moreno.  Sophomore Zach Hunt and junior Paul Koenig shared time in goal and both had four saves.  Woodmore, 14-2 overall, had 29 shots in the game.

Wildcats Drop Non-League Game at Home

10/9/18 - The Woodmore boys team hosted state-ranked Archbold and lost a 9-1 decision.  Archbold scored four goals in the first 10 minutes and led 7-0 at halftime.  Senior Alec Garcia scored the lone Woodmore goal with 6:21 left in the game on an assist by senior Brandon Blausey.

Wildcats Host Old Fort in First State Tourney Game

10/8/18 - The Woodmore boys soccer team will open Div. III state tournament play on Oct. 15 when they host Old Fort at 5 p.m. at Wildcat Stadium.  Tickets for the game will be $6 for adults and $4 for students and will be available at the door on the day of the game.  The winner of the Woodmore-Old Fort game will play Riverdale on Oct. 17 at 5 p.m.  If Woodmore wins the sectional opener, they would host Riverdale for the game on Oct. 17.

Wildcats Stay Undefeated in League Play

10/4/18 - The Woodmore boy soccer team stayed perfect in Northern Buckeye Conference play with a 5-2 win at home over Eastwood.  With the win, Woodmore improved to 9-0 in league play and 13-1 overall.  After senior Alec Garcia opened the scoring with a goal with 37:48 left in the first half, on a assist from senior Hayden Heidebrink, Eastwood scored both its goals to take a 2-1 lead.  Garcia's goal was his 24th this season and 48th of his career to eclipse the career record for goals of 47 set by Malachi Brown (2010-13).  Woodmore scored twice in a four minute span late in the half to take the lead for good.  Garcia notched his second of the game with 12:03 left and senior Cole Anthony scored with 8:15 left as Woodmore led 3-2 at half.  Heidebrink assisted on Garcia's second goal and Garcia assisted on Anthony's goal.  Heidebrink made it 4-2 with 33:54 left in the game as his penalty kick was saved by the goalkeeper but he banged home the rebound.  Garcia scored his third of the game with 38.1 seconds left off an assist from senior Sam Barbee.  Sophomore Zach Hunt had eight saves in goal and Woodmore had 38 shots.  Garcia now has 26 goals this season, one away from tying the school single-season record set by Brown in 2013.  Heidebrink, who has 20 goals this season, also has 24 assists, the school record, while his career total of 42 assists is also the school mark.  

Wildcats Push Win Streak to 10

10/2/18 - The Woodmore boys soccer team pushed its winning streak to 10 games with a hard-fought 4-3 win at home over Rossford in a Northern Buckeye Conference game.  Woodmore, now 12-1 overall and 8-0 in the NBC, scored twice in the first eight minutes to assume a 2-0 lead.  Junior Paul Koenig scored with 37:41 left in the first half with senior Hayden Heidebrink getting the assist.  Senior Alec Garcia then scored with 32:49 left with senior Cole Anthony getting the assist.  After Rossford made it 2-1 on penalty kick, Garcia scored with 14:43 left in the first half, from Heidebrink, to make it 3-1 at the break.  Rossford scored at 30:38 and 24:22 to tie the game at 3, before Garcia scored his third of the game with 14:38 left to send the Wildcats home victorious.  Senior Brandon Blausey assisted on Garcia's final goal.  Woodmore had 24 shots and sophomore Zach Hunt had four saves in goal.
