Woodmore Slips by Margaretta

1/13/18 - Varsity - at Woodmore 46, Margaretta 42. In a game Woodmore never trailed, six straight points in the middle of the fourth quarter proved to be the difference.  The Wildcats led 10-8 after one quarter.  Woodmore then scored the first 11 points of the second quarter to lead 21-8 with four minutes left in the half.  Margaretta would then respond by scoring 10 of the next 12 points to finish out the half as the Woodmore lead had been cut to 23-18.  Margaretta would then score 10 of the first 15 points of the third quarter to tie the score at 28 with 5:38 left.  Woodmore would then finish the quarter on a 10-4 run to take a 38-32 lead to the final stanza.  Margaretta scored the first basket of the fourth quarter, but Woodmore would score the important six points to take a 44-34 lead with 3:40 left in the game.  Margaretta would get right back in the game scoring eight points in 26 seconds to cut the Woodmore lead to 44-42 with 2:23 left.  Those would be the last points until Woodmore senior Mitchell Miller canned two charity tosses with 14.1 seconds left to ice the game.  Margaretta had three empty offensive possessions while Woodmore had two until Miller's free throws.  Miller led the way with 24 points, 15 in the first half, while junior Drew Burner added 11 points.  A total of five players scored in the game for both teams.  Junior Varsity - Margaretta 47, at Woodmore 30.  Margaretta led 16-7 after one quarter and 27-9 at halftime as Woodmore could never get on track.  Sophomore Javier Slaughter scored 9 points to lead the Wildcats.  Freshman - Margaretta 39, at Woodmore 34.  Woodmore led after each of the first three quarters, but were outscored 14-5 in the fourth quarter in the loss.  Woodmore led 12-8 after one quarter and 20-14 at halftime.  They still held a 31-25 lead heading into the final stanza.  Ethan McMair, Hunter Allen, and DJ Melter each scored six points for the Wildcats.
