Woodmore Comeback Nets Win over Eastwood

1/19/18 - Varsity - at Woodmore 46, Eastwood 44. The Wildcats rebounded form a nine-point deficit in the third quarter and senior Mitchell Miller hit a wing three-pointer with 5.6 seconds left for the winning points in the Wildcat victory.  Woodmore led 7-4 after one quarter and 25-21 at halftime of the Northern Buckeye Conference game.  Eastwood had a big third quarter to lead 37-32 after three quarters.  Eastwood scored 15 of the first 17 points of the third quarter to take a 36-27 lead with 1:48 left in the stanza.  Woodmore clawed back to make it 37-32 by the end of the quarter partially on the strength of a buzzer-beater basket that went length of the court in just over two seconds.  Senior Kevin Paul put the lay up in at the buzzer.  Eastwood still led 40-33 with 7:04 left in the game when Woodmore scored eight unanswered to go up 41-40 with 3:59 left.  Junior Drew Burner accounted for all eight Woodmore points in the run.  After an Eastwood layup with 3:30 left made it 42-41, both teams did not score on their next two trips down the court.  Woodmore made a steal with one minute left and Miller converted two free throws to make it 43-42 with 53.5 seconds left.  Eastwood then missed a three-point attempt but they rebounded and were foulded making one-of-two free throws with 28.5 seconds left, setting the stage for Miller's game-winner.  Miller's shot made it 46-43.  Eastwood called time out and Woodmore fouled an Eastwood player with 1.9 seconds left.  He made the first free throw to make it 46-44, but missed the second intentionally and Woodmore junior Hayden Heidebrink grabbed the rebound securing the victory.  Miller took game scoring honors with 20 points while Burner contributed 13 points.  Woodmore was 14-of-19 at the charity stripe while Eastwood was 9-of-20.  Junior Varsity - at Woodmore 46, Eastwood 43.  In a tight game all the way, sophomore Paul Koenig bagged two free throws late in the fourth quarter and Eastwood missed two tries at a tying three-pointer in the last 10 seconds as Woodmore earned the win.  Eastwood led 12-6 after one quarter and Woodmore led 20-18 at halftime.  Eastwood led 32-31 after three quarters.  Koenig led the Wildcats with 14 points, sophomore Andrew Barringer added 13 points, and junior Jimmy Grzegorczyk scored 10 points. Freshman - at Woodmore 36, Eastwood 28.  Woodmore outscored the Eagles 13-4 in the fourth quarter to earn the win.  Ethan McNair scored 11 poiunts to lead the Wildcats while DJ Melter added 10 points.
