Woodmore Drops NBC Road Game

1/4/18 - Varsity - at Genoa 50, Woodmore 35.  Woodmore led 9-4 at one point in the first quarter, but trailed 11-9 by the end of the frame.  After Genoa got the first basket of the second quarter, Woodmore countered with field goals by freshman Aaron Sandrock and junior Logan Mierzejewski to tie the score at 13 with 4:59 left, setting up the critical point in the game.  Genoa would score the next 12 points to take a 25-13 edge with 50 seconds left in the second quarter.  The Wildcats would get a field goal from senior Mitchell Miller, who led Woodmore with 18 points, before the halftime buzzer to trail 25-15.  The 10- to 12-point edge Genoa gained in their second quarter run would be maintained most of the rest of the game.  The third quarter went back-and-forth with Genoa building a 13-point lead (32-19) with 5:28 left before Woodmore would cut it to eight points on three occasions late in the quarter.  The teams settled for a 40-30 Genoa lead after three quarters.  A Miller three-pointer with 6:13 left in the fourth quarter pulled Woodmore within eight points (41-33).  The score was 44-35 with 5:09 to play on a Sandrock baseline jumper, but those would be the last points of the game for the Wildcats.  Genoa scored the last three baskets of the game to complete the scoring.  Junior Varsity - at Genoa 46, Woodmore 39.  The Wildcats led 22-19 at halftime, but Genoa outscored the Wildcats, 18-11, in the third quarter to take a 37-33 lead.  Woodmore managed just six points  in the fourth quarter.  Sophomore Paul Koenig led the way with 12 points while junior Michael Lindhorst added seven points. Freshman - at Genoa 21, Woodmore 20 (ot).  Woodmore led by two points at halftime (10-8) and after three quarters (16-14) in a closely contested game.  The teams were tied at 18 at the end of regulation.  Zach Hunt led the Wildcats with nine points while Ethan McNair added four points.
