Wildcats Take Tough Road Loss

1/7/17 - Varsity - The Wildcats (3-7) kept fighting back from deficits, but couldn't get over the hump in losing a 46-43 non-league decision at Hopewell-Loudon.  Woodmore trailed 23-19 at halftime and scored the first field goal of the third quarter to close the gap to two points.  But, Hopewell would score the next seven points to extend their lead to 30-21.  The Wildcats still trailed 35-28 heading into the fourth quarter when they closed to within four points at 36-32 with 5:59 left.  A three-point field goal by junior Kevin Paul brought the Wildcats to within one at 36-35 with 5:04 left.  Hopewell scored the next four points to lead 40-35 with 3:48 left when WHS made it last run.  A three-point field goal by junior Mitchell Miller made the score 43-41 with 43.7 seconds left.  Hopewell missed the front end of a one-and-one situation at the free throw line, but rebounded the ball and made one free throw on a Woodmore foul to make it 44-41 with 15.1 seconds left.  Woodmore missed the front end of a one-and-one with 11.0 second left and Hopewell rebounded and was fouled and made both free throws to put an end to any Woodmore hopes.  Senior Derek Wank scored 17 points to lead the Wildcats while Miller and Paul each chipped in with nine points apiece.  Junior varsity - The Wildcats hung on for a 39-37 win after entering the final quarter leading 34-20.  The Wildcats had built their lead in part by outscoring Hopewell 13-2 in the third quarter.  Sophomore Drew Burner led Woodmore with 13 points while sophomore Taityn Rollins added 10 points.  Freshman - The Wildcats were outscored 16-6 in the third quarter to turn a 16-13 halftime lead into a 29-22 deficit after three quarters in losing a 33-25 decision.  Andrew Barringer had 13 points, Paul Koenig added six.
