Wildcats Take League Leader to the Edge Before Losing

2/7/17 - Varsity - The Wildcats (6-11, 4-7 NBC) pushed the Northern Buckeye Conference co-leader, Eastwood, to the edge before losing a 69-55 decision on the road.  After an even first half, Eastwood led 11-8 after one quarter and 33-29 at halftime, the two teams played an even third quarter to send the teams to the final stanza with Eastwood leading by four points (48-44).  The Wildcats got five points from senior Mikey Blausey early in the final quarter to bring the Wildcats to within 55-53 with 5:12 left.  Eastwood would put the game away by scoring the next 12 points to take a 67-53 lead with 1:48 left.  Eastwood converted three layups and were 6-fot-6 from the charity stripe during the scoring run.  Junior Mitchell Miller led the Wildcats with 20 points, 13 in the second half, while senior Derek Wank scored 10 points and Blausey added eight points.  Eastwood had 10 different players score at least three points with only one double-figure scorer.  Junior Varsity - Woodmore made a late run after trailing the entire game, but came up short losing a 57-43 decision.  Eastwood led 23-10 after the first quarter, 31-19 at halftime, and 45-28 after three quarters.  Sophomore Taityn Rollins led the way for Woodmore with 16 points.  Sophomore Drew Burner added nine points while classmate Hayden Heidebrink added eight points.  Freshman - The Wildcats made a late run and had a three-point shot at the buzzer to tie it, but came up short losing a 28-25 decision.  Woodmore had a chance to take the lead at the charity stripe late in the game and their final try to send the game to overtime did not find the mark.  Andrew Barringer led the Wildcats with 10 points while Javier Slaughter scored seven points.
