Woodmore Drops NBC Opener

12/14/17 - Varsity - Otsego 60, at Woodmore 57.  In a well-played, close game most of the way, Otsego hit a three-pointer with 1:29 left in the game to take the lead for good at 58-55 and went on for the win.  Otsego scored eight straight points in the second quarter to take a 25-17 lead with 4:46 left - after they led 17-12 after one quarter.  Otsego would score five of the next seven points to take their biggest lead of the game, 30-19 with 2:12 left in the second quarter.   The visitors led 32-23 at halftime.  Woodmore would mount a comeback on the strength of a 17-7 run to start the third quarter to take a 40-39 lead with 2:42 left.  Senior Mitchell Miller, who led Woodmore with 17 points, had nine points in the run and junior Drew Burner, who scored 16 points, had four points.  The quarter ended with  the teams tied at 43.  In the final stanza, the teams were tied at 48 (6:31 left), 50 (4:55 left), 53 (3:01 left), and 55 (2:25 left).  In each case Woodmore points forced the tie.  With the score tied at 55 after Woodmore junior Sam Barbee's field goal in the lane, Otsego's David Silva hit a three-pointer with 1:29 left to make it 58-55.  After both teams missed the front ends of one-and-one situations, senior Kevin Paul converted from left of the lane with 8.2 seconds left to make it 58-57.  With 6.6 seconds left, Otsego's Will Varner converted both ends of a one-and-one to push the the lead back up to 60-57.  Woodmore then raced the length of the court and missed a three-pointer that would have tied it, losing for the first time this season.  Barbee ended the game with seven points.  Junior Varsity - at Woodmore 48, Otsego 47 (OT). Sophomore Cade Burrough hit a three-pointer with seven seconds left in regulation to force overtime and Woodmore outscored the Knights, 7-6, in the extra period for win.  Burrough had 10 points in the game while sophomore Paul Koenig led the way with 19 points, 14 in the second half and overtime.  Woodmore led 35-31 going into the fourth quarter only to score six points in the fourth quarter.  Both teams his six three-pointers in the game.  Freshman - at Woodmore 25, Otsego 23.  Zane Lopez canned a three-pointer with seven seconds left to give the Wildcats the win.  Otsego led 23-22 when Lopez hit the game-winner.  Those were Lopez's only points of the game.  Woodmore trailed 9-2 early in the second quarter only to score 20 of the next 22 points to take a 22-11 lead in the third quarter.  Otsego clawed their way back to take the late lead before Lopez hit the shot.  Isaac Betancourt led the Wildcats with 10 points and Hunter Allen added five points.
