Junior Varsity: Woodmore, 10-1

The Wildcats (1-1-1) played the first game of a doubleheader at Port Clinton and dropped a one-run decision in a pitcher's duel.  Woodmore used two pitchers, senior Brandon Cowell started and pitched the first three innings and senior Austin Berkel tossed the final three innings.  Cowell allowed both runs, both were earned, and struck out five and walked four while allowing only two hits.  Berkel allowed one hit and struck out three and walked one in his three innings.  Port Clinton scored in the second inning on a walk, stolen base, ground out and a fielder's choice bunt that plated the run.  The winning run in the third inning scored on a double and a two-out RBI single.  Woodmore plated its only run on the game to tie the game in the top of the third inning when junior Kevin Paul singled, advanced to second base on a passed ball, after Cowell walked, they both advanced one base on a passed ball, and Paul scored on senior Mason Beachler's sacrifice fly.  The Port Clinton starting pitcher, Trevor Frias, went the distance and struck out 10 batters.  He retired 12 of the last 13 Woodmore batters he faced and struck out the side in the seventh inning. The junior varsity played the second game of the doubleheader and won, 10-1.
